You see trampolines in backyards across the country now, and you’re probably used to hearing your kids talk about friends’ trampolines, and how cool they are. And you are probably used to hearing other people talk about the fact that trampolines aren’t all that safe. You may be thinking your kids would benefit from the exercise—but are trampolines actually safe?

Trampolines are both safer than most people think, and far safer than they used to be. Early “trampoline” safety primarily consisted of putting your trampoline in a spot that was as level and smooth as possible, and preferably covered in grass, so when the kids fell off, they wouldn’t hurt themselves badly. Parents used to cower at the idea of a trampoline in the backyard, and most insurance companies charged extra for homeowner’s insurance when a trampoline sat in the backyard.

Today, trampoline safety is a lot more sophisticated. First, you can buy a spring-free trampoline, which eliminates the minor injuries of cuts and pinches from landing on a spring, and insures that kids don’t hit a spring and bounce off. This is a very good first step, though spring-based trampolines are also safe when used with the correct pads to cover the springs.

You should still place your trampoline in a safe, smooth, level spot covered with grass if at all possible; that’s just common sense. In case there is an accident, a good location can minimize injuries.

You should also place a safety net around your trampoline. This keeps jumpers from bouncing off the trampoline and hitting the ground, and is a requirement on most insurance policies. It’s also just a good investment in your kids’ safety. It is not uncommon for kids to bounce off of un-netted trampolines, so putting a net around yours will keep your kids on the trampoline and safe.

Trampoline safety pads cover the metal poles and the springs, so that if your kids happen to bounce into either they’re protected from pain and possible injury. This makes the whole trampoline a soft, bouncy, safe surface.

You can often find trampoline packages that include the trampoline, net and safety pads for a discounted price over buying each part separately. Even if your dealer does not carry pre-bundled packages, they will often offer a discount when you buy the safety equipment and the trampoline together. If you’re putting up a trampoline, you need to put the appropriate safety measures in place right from the start, to make sure no one gets hurt.

Can kids get hurt on a trampoline? Sure. They can also get hurt on bikes or using colored pencils, if they fall or stab themselves. But as safe play goes, trampolines are over-engineered for safety these days, and the protective gear available makes them one of the safest pieces of play equipment most kids use. Sure, there is always the possibility of an accident, but if your trampoline is well protected and well placed, there should be no problems.

If you’re thinking about getting a trampoline for your backyard, you’re probably interested in a recreational trampoline. Knowing what the basic types of trampoline are can help you in your shopping, because the various terms can be a little confusing if you’re not familiar with them. You might think a trampoline is a trampoline…is a trampoline. But there are several types of trampolines, and you need to know what you are looking for.

A recreational trampoline, made of waterproof canvas, holds up in outdoor conditions. You see recreational trampolines in backyards all the time. They are often circular, but can be rectangular, square, and octagonal. These trampolines come in various sizes, but most are fairly large, and these trampolines are generally set up and left in one place, as they’re not portable unless very small. In your shopping for a backyard trampoline, this is probably what you’ll be looking for.

Competitive trampolines, made of a special fabric, weigh very little and can be transported easily. Competitive trampolines are always specific sizes and shapes based on international competition rules, and use stronger springs than recreational trampolines. These trampolines, which are designed for competitive athletes, are significantly more expensive than recreational trampolines. You probably do not need a competitive trampoline unless you have an athlete in training.

Water trampolines are used only for fun, not really for exercise and not at all for competition. They feature inflatable tubes that keep them afloat in a pool, and kids (and grownups) can jump on the surface of the trampoline. These are popular at pool parties.

Finally, mini-trampolines are designed for indoor use, are extremely portable, and are often known as jogging trampolines. You may have used one of these to exercise indoors, or had one in your home for your kids to play on. They’re great for indoor exercise and fun, and they’re quite inexpensive, in terms of both exercise equipment and indoor play equipment.

The important thing to remember when you start looking at trampolines is that you want a trampoline that is specifically marketed for outdoor use, or labeled as a “backyard” trampoline. Again, unless you have an athlete training for competition, you do not need, nor do you want, a competition trampoline. You want a trampoline designed specifically for backyard use.

Recreational trampolines are great for just jumping around and having fun, which is what most kids use them for. With the proper pads and net, trampolines are one of the safest ways to play in the backyard. They’re also great for grownups wanting to work out and get some great aerobic and lower body exercise while having a good time and getting some fresh air. If you’re looking for water fun, remember the water trampoline is a great way to have fun in the pool, and of course mini-trampolines are fun for exercising and playing indoors.
Whichever type of trampoline you use, make sure you follow basic common sense and safety guidelines, and use caution when playing on a trampoline. You’ll be rewarded with a great time and good exercise.

If you’ve ever seen the baby trampolines in the sporting goods store and thought, “Oh, isn’t that cute,” you may not realize that these little trampolines, known as rebound trampolines, fitness trampolines or mini-trampolines, are a great exercise tool. If you don’t have time to go out for a run, or go to the gym, or if you’re concerned your kids are not getting enough exercise, a mini-trampoline might be the perfect solution.

You don’t need a lot of room for a mini-trampoline, which can make it a much better way to exercise at home than a treadmill or exercise bike. These trampolines are great for jogging or for aerobic exercise, and you can fold up the trampoline and lean it against the wall or slide it under a bed to get it out of the way. You might be amazed, in fact, at how convenient the mini-trampoline is.

If you’re planning to do regular aerobic exercise, such as following a tape, doing aerobics to music, or running, you’ll appreciate having a mini-trampoline to jog or dance on, and you will enjoy the convenience of simply setting up your trampoline and getting to work; you won’t have to go out in bad weather or drive to the gym to meet your fitness goals.

Mini-trampolines come in several sizes. The very smallest trampolines, which are usually about three or four feet in diameter, are very inexpensive, often under $50, and are the easiest to store and set up. You may find a trampoline like this fits your needs perfectly and lets you do exactly what you need, when you want to work out. You can also buy larger fitness trampolines, and if you’re going to be using it a lot and doing a lot of complicated aerobics moves you might find that a larger trampoline serves your needs better.

But don’t limit your trampoline only to fitness and exercise use. Next time your kids are bored, can’t go out because of the weather, and are obviously full of energy, why not pull out the mini-trampoline and let them play on it? This is a great way to get some of their energy out, as well as helping them get some exercise and play indoors when it’s nasty outside.

When you buy a mini-trampoline, don’t necessarily buy the cheapest one you can find. Consider getting a slightly more expensive model to increase the durability and safety of your trampoline. Carefully check the springs, pads and legs, and make sure the surface is going to hold your weight and allow you to exercise easily. You want it to be elastic, but you don’t want to sink through to the floor when you stand on it, either.

Overall, a mini-trampoline is a very useful piece of exercise and workout equipment, and a great way for you to get your exercise, as well as for your kids to work out and play indoors and release extra energy while getting fit. And for the workout potential, a mini-trampoline is a great bargain, as well.

If you’ve driven through a suburban neighborhood recently, you probably saw a lot of backyard trampolines. They’re a very popular backyard toy for kids and teenagers, and many families own trampolines. Kids love to play on them, of course, but have you considered that trampolines might be a great way for you to work out and get some exercise?

Trampolines are often seen as kids’ toys, and certainly kids can jump randomly and play wildly on a trampoline. In fact, that’s how kids usually use a trampoline, and that’s fine. They’re actually getting a lot of exercise on the trampoline, having a good time, and not thinking about the fact that they’re actually doing something good for themselves. That’s a good way to get their fitness activities in.

The fact is, you can get a better workout on a trampoline than you can many other ways. Trampoline exercise is very challenging, because you not only exercise, but you have to get the hang of moving and exercising on a trampoline. We’re not used to moving on surfaces made essentially of elastic, so just learning to balance and move deliberately is a great way to build your fitness. You’ll be much more coordinated after a few weeks of exercising on a trampoline.

You know that you can get an aerobic workout on a trampoline; obviously the jumping and bouncing gets your heart pumping and builds your cardiovascular endurance and strength. But as you build your skill in jumping higher and landing where you want to land and how you want to land, you build other muscles. You’ll be surprised how much your legs, hips, and abs hurt after your first few really vigorous trampoline workouts. This is a good thing, even though it may not feel like it, because it means you’re getting a complete cardiovascular and lower body workout at the same time.

You’ll also build your balance and become more adept at using a trampoline after only a very short time of working out on this bouncing mat. You’ll learn how to move where and how you want, and become a master of the trampoline. You will work out longer, and more effectively, the more you work on a trampoline, and you’ll really get a great fitness benefit from working out on a trampoline.

If all of that sounds good, there is one more benefit that hasn’t even been mentioned yet. Working out on a trampoline is fun. In fact, it can be a lot of fun, and you might find yourself really looking forward to your workout, something that most people don’t find inviting or interesting. If you’re tired of your regular workout, or need to start working out but find it tedious and boring, you might be surprised how much you enjoy exercising when you do it on a trampoline.

If you don’t have a trampoline, you might want to see if you can spend some time on a friend’s, and consider buying one for yourself just for the workout benefits. And of course if you have kids who’ll enjoy it, that’s even better.

If you never had a trampoline when you were a kid or teen, you really missed out on something. If you’ve seen kids jumping on a trampoline, you can easily see what a great time they’re having. For some reason, kids love to jump, whether they’re on the bed, on the ground or on a trampoline, and trampolines are the most fun (and usually most acceptable) jumping platforms.

Kids jump primarily because they have a lot of energy. Well, that and because jumping is fun, and they like to jump. A backyard trampoline gives them a safe place to jump (assuming it’s set up correctly), and gets them out of the house and playing outside.

Trampolines for the backyard come in a variety of sizes, which can be a major help when you start looking at trampolines. When you survey your backyard, you may think, “Where would we put it,” but there are many different sizes of trampolines, and you can get them in round or rectangular shapes, so it may be easier to find a place to put a trampoline than you expect.

When you choose a trampoline, it’s a good idea to get a spring-free trampoline, which is safer for the kids. There’s no chance of hitting a spring and getting a pinch or cut, or of bouncing off a spring and hitting the ground. Spring-free trampolines boast a lot more safety than trampolines with springs. And when you choose your trampoline, also add pads to protect jumpers from injury if they bounce into the poles, and a safety net to keep jumpers on the trampoline, where they belong. It’s easy to bounce off onto the ground without a net, so this is a very important safety accessory.

If you’re putting a trampoline in your backyard, you should also consider using it yourself for exercise. Learning to move deliberately on a trampoline, and using it for cardiovascular and lower body workouts, will give you a great, fun way to work out, in your own yard, and also allow you to do something fun with your kids and spend time together outdoors.

Whatever size and shape of trampoline you choose, make sure that in addition to using pads and a net, you also put it on level, smooth ground, with no rocks or roots under the area where jumpers might land in getting off or if they should somehow fall. Good placement is a key to trampoline safety.

A trampoline provides both you and your kids with hours of outdoor entertainment. If you put up a trampoline, you can almost guarantee that your kids will want to spend time outside jumping, more than they want to be inside watching television reruns. They’ll have a blast, you’ll have a great time watching and even jumping with them, and you’ll get the most return on your money of any entertainment item you buy for your kids, possibly in their lives. Overall, there is very little you can do for your kids that they will enjoy and use as much as a trampoline.

If you’ve ever been a kid, known a kid or had a kid, you know that trampolines are a big deal to kids. They all love bouncing and playing on a trampoline; it’s one of the most fun outdoor toys available. However, if you’ve ever bought homeowner’s insurance, you also know that trampolines can be dangerous, and that just having a trampoline in your backyard can raise your insurance rates. The new spring-free trampolines are safer and make a better choice for households with kids who want to offer them a fun, but safe, way to play.

Traditional trampolines have springs, which can cause painful injuries, from pinches to cuts and bruises. And hitting a spring can cause a child (or an adult for that matter) to lose his or her balance and fall off the trampoline, hitting the ground hard and possibly breaking an arm or leg. Spring-free trampolines, as you might expect, don’t have these springs, and thus there’s no danger of hitting a spring.

In addition to buying a spring-free trampoline that will not injure your child as easily, you should also buy a safety net to go around your trampoline. Falling off of a trampoline and hitting the ground can cause serious injuries. While it’s easier to stay on a trampoline without springs, and spring-free trampolines are generally safer, it’s always a good idea to have a net around the trampoline to make sure everyone stays on the trampoline.

Another way to make sure your trampoline is extremely safe for your children and friends is to buy safety pads and install them on the steel frame where it connects to the trampoline, so that if someone should fall onto the edge of the trampoline, they won’t be injured.

When you’re buying a trampoline, safety should be your first concern. As noted, buying a spring-free trampoline is the absolute best way to avoid injuries from springs, and buying a safer trampoline is a good start in providing a safe jumping environment. This should be your first priority when you’re shopping for a trampoline.

Also, look for a package that includes the trampoline, safety net and pads. You can probably save money by buying all of the safety attachments together with the trampoline, rather than buying the trampoline, net and pad separately. If your dealer does not already offer a package, ask about a discount if you buy everything together. Many trampoline dealers will offer a discount on pads and nets when you buy your trampoline, and even if they’re not advertising a package, they’ll probably work with you if you ask.

When you’re considering buying a trampoline and want to provide the safest play environment, make sure that you purchase a spring-free trampoline, to protect kids against the springs, as well as pads and a safety net. Then place your trampoline on the most level, smooth ground you can find in your backyard, and you have done a lot to make sure your trampoline will be a safe place to play.

It’s a while ago now, but a number of people sued a major trampoline manufacturing company because their children were injured in a trampoline accident. The cause varied, but some kids were bounced off by other jumpers, whilst other fell after jumping too high. Some were even blown off the trampoline in high winds. It doesn’t matter what caused the trampoline accident, the end result has been that trampoline manufacturers have begun to develop trampoline accessories that can be used to make trampolining a much safer activity for everyone.

One of the most popular of these new trampoline accessories has been the enclosure net. This is designed to stop children accidentally bouncing off the side of the trampoline. It’s also designed so that people can’t get caught inside the springs, which has frequently led to lacerations or broken bones in the past. The good news is that this trampoline accessory has led to a big reduction in the number of deaths and injuries caused by freak trampoline accidents. You can buy enclosure nets in a variety of sizes to suit most standard trampoline models. If you’re buying a new trampoline, it can be bought as part of a package, but if you have an older, large trampoline, you should be able to find a net to fit your model.

Another ongoing problem with trampolines is exposure to rain and snow. Many of the larger trampolines are difficult to disassemble, plus require a large amount of storage space. So now you can buy trampoline covers. This accessory acts in the same way as a pool cover, and a good quality cover will keep the trampoline’s jumping surface dry right throughout the heaviest rains. If you pull the trampoline cover tight enough, you can also protect the trampoline’s springs and jumping platform, as the cover can act as a temporary shield to support a heavy fall of snow.

One trampoline accessory that has been around for a while now is improved springs. This is a great way to get more from your existing trampoline. More robust springs allow you to get a stronger rebound from the jumping area, so you can bounce much higher. Also, if your trampoline is a little the worse for wear after heavy rain or snow, replacing the springs with better ones will help to resurrect a sagging jumping platform. Good quality springs will resist sagging in the first place.

We all know that kids today are getting fat and lazy. They spend countless hours watching TV, surfing the net and playing video games. Far too many are adolescent couch potatoes. And if you, as a parent, try to convince them to do something energetic, the answer is unlikely to be positive. The chances of getting them to the gym while their favorite TV show is on, or when a friend wants to chat online, are about zero. You need to find a way they can get the exercise they need and have some fun doing it, without impacting too much on their lifestyle.

This is where a mini trampoline can be a great investment. A mini trampoline, or rebound trampoline, is easy to use and can be set up almost anywhere in the house. Nearly every kid has gone through the stage of jumping on the bed or the couch, and a mini trampoline can recreate that fun experience without ruining the furniture or falling off the bed.

Their favorite TV show is on? No problem, jump on the mini trampoline in front of the television. Involved in an online chat? Have a few bounces when you’re waiting for someone to reply. And when it’s not in use, most mini trampolines can be stowed away in a cupboard or under the bed.

By the way, don’t think a mini trampoline should only be for the kids – it can be great for your health too. You can do your own mini trampoline workouts to help improve your cardiac fitness. Depending on the type of workout you do, you can focus on weight loss, cardiac fitness or strength training. The hardest part will be finding a time to have a turn!

Here are some of the ways that every member of your family can benefit from a mini trampoline:

- improves circulation
- low impact exercise, so safer for knees and ankles
- burns more calories than jogging
- strengthens legs and thighs
- good for coordination and balance
- great cardio workout
- it’s great fun!!

When you’re choosing a mini trampoline, make sure you find one with six legs. This means it will be a lot more stable than a four-legged model, and it’s worth paying a few extra dollars for that stability. You can also buy models with a stabilizer bar if you need some extra stability.

The important thing is to get started – your health and fitness will thank you – and so will your kids!

If you’re planning on buying a trampoline, there are a number of things you need to consider before choosing one. After all, you want your trampoline to last, and it’s also important that it’s safe for you and anyone else to use. There’s no point buying a trampoline that will fall apart after six months outside, or that could be a safety hazard.

Basically, trampolines come in three shapes – rectangular, square and round. They’re also available in many sizes, from mini trampolines that you can use indoors for exercising, right through to large trampolines for outdoor use. You need to take a close look at the trampoline before buying it, and pay particular attention to the frame pads, spring, frame and jumping mat.

When it comes to safety, the frame pads are one of the most important parts of the trampoline. Look for thick, wide pads, with good quality material, so that you know the frame pads are well made, and will provide a good level of protection. The frame itself needs to be strong and sturdy, particularly for bigger trampolines, because it’s likely that more than one person will use the trampoline at the same time on occasion. The frame should never show signs of bending or bowing when it’s set up, and it shouldn’t flex when someone bounces on the trampoline.

The jumping mat needs to be made of strong, quality material, and be properly stitched. The mat needs to be strong enough to withstand the weight of at least one adult, and preferably two. Jumping mats come in several grades, and if you want your trampoline to last a long time, then choose one of the better mats. Check out the springs, too, and make sure they’re strong and solid. See if they sag, weaken or stretch out of shape after use. Longer springs mean a better bounce, so keep that in mind if you want a particularly bouncy trampoline.

Try asking family and friends if they can recommend a quality supplier of trampolines. Also, look to see if the manufacturer has adhered to international safety standards. You can also visit the International Trampoline Industry Association (ITIA), which is a trade association for manufacturers, distributors and suppliers of trampolines and related equipment.

Bungee jumping has been around a while now, and is becoming more popular. Nobody seems to be able to agree about whether or not it’s a true sport, but it’s hard to deny that certainly is an extreme form of recreation. Anyone who does a bungee jump does so knowing that they may well be risking both life and limb. But if you’d like the thrill without quite so much risk, then bungee trampolining may be just what you’re looking for.

There comes a day when the kids are a bit too big for a bounce house at their party, or perhaps you want to entertain a group of adults. That’s where the bungee trampoline comes in. Mind you, this exciting pastime isn’t just restricted to private parties any more – giant sized trampolines are beginning to show up at carnivals, theme parks and even shopping centers. It doesn’t matter where it is, a bungee trampoline certainly will give anyone a thrill if they’re brave enough to have a go.

Basically, a bungee trampoline is basically a regular trampoline and some bungee jumping apparatus combined together. Two tall poles are attached to the side of a standard trampoline, and the bungee cords are attached to the tops of the poles. The jumper climbs into a bungee harness that is positioned in the center of the trampoline, with the harness attached to the bungee cords. Then the jumper starts to bounce on the trampoline, just the same as you would on any standard trampoline. The technician supervising the jumper gradually tightens the bungee cords, so that the jumper experiences more push when jumping.

The result is that the person can jump a great deal higher than normal on the trampoline. Recent bungee trampoline designs even allow the jumper to perform tricks as they bounce up into the air. It’s still only possible to do simple rotations and spins, but it still makes the whole experience a lot more exciting than just jumping up and down. If you’re looking for something fun and exciting to have at your next party, then take a look at hiring a bungee trampoline. The only hard part will be keeping things under control, because everyone will want a go!
